Rapid growth in the Software Engineering field demands that its professionals stay current with evolving technologies and industrial practice. Since June, 1996, Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science (SCS) has been committed to meeting this need by developing and delivering at a distance world-class software engineering courses.

Our program offers practicing engineers an opportunity to merge state-of-the art concepts and methodologies with real-world challenges. Bringing SCS faculty and staff together with software engineering professionals, these courses present innovative approaches to problems and issues in the field. Students may enroll in one of the following options, depending on their needs:

Master of Software Engineering

Provides an environment for mastering the discipline of information technology for professionals. The program is organized around three basic educational forms: Core Curriculum; Electives/Specialization Tracks; and the Software Development Practicum.

Golden Gate University

Master of Science in Software Engineering

This innovative program will prepare you for a range of careers in software development, from gaming and consumer software to enterprise systems for small and large businesses. You'll get hands-on experience in the latest programming technologies, including object-oriented and visual programming, component-based Rapid Application Development (RAD), and Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE).

Specialize in the Internet, Client/Server and Distributed Objects Programming, or Windows Programming. Then apply your skills in a trimester-long capstone project designing commercial-quality software for a real-world business or consumer application. There are many possible careers in software engineering such as corporate in-house software developer, Internet programmer, client/server and distributed objects programmer, software designer, project manager, quality assurance tester, technical marketer, freelance software engineer.

Master of Software Engineering

The Master of Science degree in Software Engineering requires completion of 48 semester units in the Foundation and Advanced Programs, as follows. Each course listed carries three semester units of credit. Individual Foundation Program courses may be waived if the student has previously completed comparable \courses at a regionally accredited college or university, or passed the appropriate CLEP Exam or Challenge Exam with an acceptable score. Students may be admitted to Advanced Program courses before completion of the entire Foundation Program, but must complete the Foundation Program by the time that twelve (12) units have been earned in the Advanced Program.
